Despite a slight hiccup, Monbulk are still having a great season in the Eastern Region Women’s Outer East competition and are definitely one of the teams to beat.
Round 1 saw a narrow win over Yarra Junction, which then they backed it up with a more comfortable win against Thornton-Eildon the following week.
They kept Belgrave scoreless on the way to their third win in a row in Round 3 before again defeating Yarra Junction in round 4. They came back home in round 5 and once again defeated Thornton-Eildon, this time by an even bigger margin. Round 6 saw the battle of the undefeated sides, and unfortunately for Monbulk their undefeated run came to an end, losing to Healesville by 15 points.
Round 7 saw their biggest win of the season to date with a 105 point win over Upwey Tecoma, while last weekend saw a 53 point win over Belgrave.
On the ladder Monbulk currently sit in 2nd place, one game and a lot of percentage behind 1st placed Healesville. In saying that, they are two games clear of 3rd place Yarra Junction. Finals are definitely on the cards for the Hawks, as they have only lost one game for the season so far, and that was to the currently undefeated Healesville.
Monbulk’s one loss for the season was the only time their final score was in single digits, otherwise scoring has certainly not been an issue for them this season.
On an individual note, Kathryn Gow has been the top goalkicker for the Hawks so far this season, kicking 28 goals. The highest individual game tally was Gow’s eight goals in round 7 against Upwey Tecoma. Some players that have consistently been named in the best players list include Gow, Jade Mccormick and Laura Gillard.
Looking ahead, here’s how the rest of the season looks for the Hawks:
