The Eastern Region Women’s Competition continues this weekend
On Saturday, Upwey Tecoma’s Division One side are at home to bottom placed Heathmont.
Last time these two sides met, it was a comfortable 65 point win to the Tigers, so they’ll be confident of repeating that that performance again this coming weekend. They will also be wanting to bounce back onto the winners list after losing to Upper Ferntree Gully last weekend.
Saturday also sees Upwey Tecoma’s Outer East side take on 2nd placed Monbulk, while Thornton-Eildon are up against Yarra Junction and Belgrave take on ladder leaders Healesville.
Lat time Upwey Tecoma and Monbulk met, it was a comfortable 105 point win to the Hawks. This time the Tigers will need to find a way through the Hawks’ defence in order to come anywhere near getting the win, as they were only able to score one point for the entire afternoon. Although recent form suggests it is unlikely, if the Tigers do manage to get the win, they will close the gap between them and fourth placed Belgrave as there is only a game separating the two heading into this weekend.
Belgrave have one of the most unenvied tasks in the ERWFL this weekend, taking on the undefeated Healesville. The Magpies can take comfort in the fact that they were the ones that kept Healesville to both their lowest score for the season and their smallest win for the season, during their earlier encounter. Although recent results make this look unlikely, if the Magpies do manage to get the win, they will give themselves a bit of breathing room between them and fifth placed Upwey Tecoma.
In the final game of the round, Yarra Junction will be looking to get back on the winners list with a win over Thornton – Eildon. Last time it was a comfortable win to Yarra Junction, but it was by no means Thornton – Eildon’s biggest loss of the year. Yarra Junction need to find their kicking boots, after only scoring one goal for the entire afternoon last weekend.
