TOP SIX EXPLAINED

In 2019 the AFL Outer East Premier Division Under 18’s is using the top six method for its Gumbuya World Finals Series.

Understandably there will no doubt be confusion on how the system works, if there is a double chance and what your sides route to the Grand Final is. We’ve got you covered though with our Top Six Explanation.

First here’s the Under 18 Premier Division Ladder.

1. Berwick
2. Narre Warren
3. Beaconsfield
4. Gembrook-Cockatoo
5. Upwey-Tecoma
6. Woori Yallock

The top two sides receive the double chance, as per the top five system, however the third placed side face an elimination final to start things off.

Week One looks like this ;

First Elimination Final – Gembrook-Cockatoo (4th) v Upwey-Tecoma (5th)

Second Elimination Final – Beaconsfield (3rd) v Woori Yallock (6th)

Qualifying Final – Berwick (1st) v Narre Warren (2nd) 

The winner of the Qualifying Final does not gain a week off for their victory, rather they maintain their double chance. They take on the highest ranked winner from the elimination finals – which could be anyone of Beaconsfield, Gembrook-Cockatoo or Upwey-Tecoma – in the Second Semi Final. Meanwhile the loser of the Qualifying Final takes on the lowest ranked winner from the elimination finals in the First Semi Final.

Week Two will look like this ;

First Semi Final – Loser of Berwick / Narre Warren v Lowest ranked elimination final winner

Second Semi Final – Winner of Berwick / Narre Warren v Highest ranked elimination final winner 

The winner of the Second Semi Final does earn themselves a week off, jumping straight into the Grand Final. The loser of that game takes on the winner of the First Semi Final in the Preliminary Final.

Week Three will look like this ;

Preliminary Final – Loser of Second Semi Final v Winner of First Semi Final 

From here it’s familiar. Winner of the Preliminary Final takes on the winner from the Second Semi Final in the Grand Final.

Week Four will look like this ;

Grand Final – Winner of Second Semi Final v Winner of Preliminary Final 

And yes, you guessed it, the winner of the Grand Final is the Premier.
