Mini final awaits Wandin

It’s more or less an elimination final for Wandin this weekend according to first year coach Nick Adam, as the Dogs travel to Woori Yallock for the second version of the 2018 Yarra Ranges Grand Final rematch.

The Dogs lost the earlier edition of this fixture by nine points, a loss which kickstarted a four match losing run. Wandin have since grabbed three more wins to sit just percentage outside the top five, but have a crucial four weeks ahead of them.

“In some ways this game is a mini final for us, if we lose we go a game outside of the top five but if we win we put ourselves right back into consideration in for a top five spot,” said Adam.

Playing Woori Yallock at home is a tough proposition for any side; however given the history these two clubs have had in recent times, Wandin hold no fears when it comes to the Tigers.

“Both clubs have a really strong relationship with each other and they can expect a travelling crowd from Wandin, however when it comes to winning the match on Saturday we will be doing everything possible.”

Adam believes there are several players that Wandin need to look out for, none more so then in form Woori Yallock ruckman Zach Monkhost. 

The Tigers number 20 has been named in the best players for the past five Woori Yallock outings and has kicked nine goals over the same period and was also the Tigers best player in Woori Yallock’s round two win over Wandin.

“Zach Monkhorst has been really good this year for Woori, especially since he has taken over the number one ruck position,

“He has dominated opposition rucks week in and week out.”

Adam believes the Dogs midfield will be able to negate Monkhorst’s influence come Saturday. 

“Michael Fowkes will have a big task ahead of him but he is a really impressive player and with the help of our midfield, we know we can win that battle,”

 “It will go a long way in winning this match.” 

Adam says the context surrounding this fixture makes this is the most important game that has ever coached.

 “Given the importance of this match and what it does for our season it probably is the most important game I’ve been a part of as a senior coach, we need to win this one.”

The Woori Yallock v Wandin clash will be live streamed via OETV.com.au and broadcast on Yarra Valley FM 99.1
