The AFL Outer East is excited to announce the appointment of a new Netball Umpire Coordinator, Jamie Maher.
Maher arrives at the league with an impressive netball resume, having umpired at all levels of the game, from grassroots through to the elite level in the Championship Division of the Victorian Netball League.
His experience further extends into various leadership roles within the netball community, with Maher a part of the Inspire Netball Group Umpire Development team, as well as previously heading up the Netball Umpire Coordinator role in the Gippsland region.
Maher’s role in 2021 will focus on facilitating the development of the AFL Outer East panel of umpires and club umpires, which will involve both professional development workshops as well as mentoring throughout the season.
He will also oversee the badging process for umpires within the league looking to further develop their qualifications.
Maher said he was looking forward to taking on a new opportunity.
“Grassroots umpiring has been a part of my life for a really long time, so after having the opportunity to do some work at the elite level, I’m looking forward to bringing my experience back to where it all began,” he said.
AFL Outer East Netball Development Manager Greg Heinrich expressed his excitement about the new appointment.
“We’re thrilled to welcome someone of Jamie’s capacity to the Outer East. His understanding of the grassroots and elite level is going to put the league in a fantastic position to further develop our umpires,” he said.
“We also thank our previous Umpire Coordinator Caz Gunn, who played a pivotal role for AFL Outer East Umpires in building the panel over many years. We hope to see her around the league moving forward.”
